John Paddington
John is Innovation Integration Lead (Public Sector) at Transport for West Midlands. His expertise lies within 5G, Urban Mobility, Connected / Automated Vehicles and Mobility as a Service. He currently leading the delivery of 350 5G enable road sensors providing better real time information planning and modelling. He also leads a team overseeing our involvement in the Midlands future Mobility Connected / Automated testbed.
He has also been seconded part time to ERTICO’s Innovation and Deployment team since September 2021. His work includes looking at the use of 5G for cross border CCAM applications as part of 5G-Mobix and promoting electromobility and MaaS through Solutions+. John is also a Vice-Chair of ITS UK’s Mobility as a Service forum.
Prior to working at Transport for West Midlands, he worked just over a year at Conigital, a start-up working on driverless vehicles, MaaS and associated services. He led Conigitial’s Innovate UK funded research and development projects. Before Conigital, John worked over 15 years at the Engineering Consultancy AECOM on public transport ITS projects for local and national government, in the UK and Internationally. Highlights including working a total of six months in South Africa setting up the ticketing, passenger information, security and traffic management systems for a new bus rapid transit system. He also acted as an expert advisor on the Jeddah Metro project.
John holds a Bachelors Degree in Computer and Management Sciences from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
