Ilja Radusch

Dr. Ilja Radusch is the Head of the Daimler Center for Automotive Information Technology Innovations (DCAITI) – an affiliated institute of Mercedes-Benz AG at the Technical University of Berlin – and Director of Smart Mobility at the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS).

His work focuses on connected and automated mobility, in particular localization and perception technologies for autonomous cars and trains, as well as HD maps for digital twins. His research spans vehicles and urban environments, including bicycles and motorcycles. A key objective of his work is to improve mobility for all – both outdoors and indoors. His indoor localization research enables visually impaired individuals to navigate independently and safely to their destinations.

Dr. Radusch actively supports start-ups and young researchers in the field of connected and automated mobility, assisting them in spin-offs and the development of new technology components. He founded the FOKUS x Startup Day and, in collaboration with Fraunhofer Venture and through his strong industry network, serves as a facilitator and enabler for technology transfer.

He is also responsible for managing major collaborative projects with industrial partners, as well as leading national and international research initiatives and advising both public authorities and the private sector
