David Ward

David Ward is President of the Towards Zero Foundation (TZF). A UK charity, promoting safe and sustainable transport. TZF hosts the Global New Car Assessment Programme, the Stop the Crash Partnership, and the Commonwealth Road Safety Initiative.  From 2001 to 2013 he was Director General of the FIA Foundation which has donated over $100 million to safe and sustainable transport projects. In 2011 he established Global NCAP promoting vehicle consumer testing programmes worldwide. From 2006 to 2015 he was Secretary of the Commission for Global Road Safety playing a leading role in the launch of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020. From 2010 to 2012 he was Chairman of the World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility. In 2009 he led the creation of the Global Fuel Economy Initiative in partnership with UNEP and the IEA. From 1996 to 2006 he was a Board Member of the European New Car Assessment Programme.  From 1988 to 1994 he was chief policy adviser to the late Rt. Hon. John Smith MP and previously worked for the United Nations Children’s Fund, and as a journalist.  David is 64 years old, graduated from London University in 1979 with a BA in philosophy.
